Dr. Ron Rubin (PhD, MA Harvard, BA Princeton) Founder & CEO
Dr. Ron Rubin’s vision—to offer affordable college admissions advice and expertise to students across the world—is at the heart of Admitster. As Admitster’s CEO, Ron’s continuous goal is to ensure that Admitster’s software is as helpful and accurate as possible. Before Admitster, Ron was on the mathematics faculty of MIT and a visiting scientist at the Weizmann Institute for Science in Israel. He is also the co-founder of Rubin/Anders Scientific, Inc., a Boston-based scientific talent agency representing scientific thought leaders including Nobel laureates and technology revolutionaries. Ron is also proud alum of Princeton University, where he graduated Summa Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa, and was a 4-year varsity letter winner in squash. Rachel earned her BA in English and Art History at Skidmore College and the Universite de Paris X Nanterre. She attained her Ed.M at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, researching models of interdisciplinary education. Rachel has over a decade of experience teaching and advising students at many exceptional secondary schools, including: the Francis W. Parker Charter Essential School, Phillips Andover Academy, the Oxbow School, and St. Johnsbury Academy. She has been both a mentor and an advocate for students pursuing their post-secondary plans and is compelled by the self-discovery and actualization they achieve through this process. 100% of the families that work with Rachel report being “Very Satisfied” with her work, and would “Definitely” recommend her to other interested families. In addition to admissions advising, Rachel helps students prepare for the reading and writing components of the SAT and ACT exams. She coaches students to improve their test-taking strategies and practice skills, while keeping their test performance in the context of the “bigger picture” of college admissions.
Katie Zandbergen earned her BS in Business & Management at Skidmore College, worked in administration at the University of Edinburgh, and was employed as an analyst in the Education & Family Support division at Abt Associates. At the University of Oxford, she earned her master’s degree and PhD in Comparative Social Policy, and also spent three years as the Junior Dean at Trinity College. After completing her graduate studies, she moved to the Netherlands, where she took on a number of responsibilities at Amsterdam University College, including working as a member of the college’s admissions team. She brings to Admitster over a decade of experience working in academia and is responsible for the content of Admitster’s online community, working to build traction on the site. Kamil Sliwak, Software Developer
Mr. Kamil Sliwak is Admitster’s “back-end” specialist. Through Kamil’s precision and knowledge, Admitster has developed and applied key theoretical models, allowing the data to yield valuable results for its users. Kamil has over seven years experience in Informational Technology and has led many projects, including social networks, web services for digital video encoding, video compositing software and others. He is also a Founder of Code Poets.
Peter Szymanski, Data Scientist
Mr. Peter Szymanski is a research data scientist at Admitster. Peter’s specialty is in bringing Admitster’s data to life – whether it is finding you exactly the right school based on your wishes, or surprising you with something “obvious in hindsight”. Peter loves bringing data to the real world in a usable, even user-friendly manner. He believes that in order for data to be effective, you must look at it from multiple different ways. If these different methods point to similar results, then the data is telling you something. He is also completing his doctorate in machine learning.
Adrian Zamorski, Software Developer
Mr. Adrian Zamorski coordinates the work of Admitster’s overseas development team. He also helps ensure that the site is easy-to-use and navigate as our specialist in the “front end of the back end”. He built out the original Django web interface for Admitster, and continues to work with the team to improve it. Adrian likes to create systems which make computer coding easier for the team, and works closely with Ed to ensure that Admitster will be this way. Adrian is also the Founder of Code Poets, a software house that specializes in creating web applications. He has experience with several international web application projects.
Founders, Directors & Advisers
Mr. Ray Prasad was one of the first investors in Admitster and the first to join Dr. Rubin on the board of directors, where he continues to serve. He is heading the International and Emerging Markets Equities team at Trust Company of the West (TCW). Prior to joining TCW in 2014, Ray was the Director and Senior Portfolio Manager for emerging markets equities at Batterymarch Financial Management, and he was also a member of the investment strategy and research leadership team, which oversaw all investment products. Prior to this, Ray worked in strategic planning at Modi-Revlon Inc. and at J. Walter Thompson. Ray holds an MS in Finance from Boston College, an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management, and a BA (with Honors) in Mathematics from St. Stephen’s College in New Delhi, India. He is a CFA charterholder.
Melissa Lea (BA Cornell, JD Boston College) Director
Melissa is a member of Admitster’s Board of Directors and advises the company on all aspects of their growth strategy with a particular emphasis on marketing, branding, and strategic partnerships. Melissa has more than 25 years’ experience in the marketing arena. Melissa is a recognized marketing and business leader and has won numerous awards including The Commonwealth Institute’s Top 100 Women-Led Businesses in Massachusetts award. She is a graduate of Stuyvesant High School, Cornell University, and Boston College Law School.
For the past five years, Mr. Clark has been focused on website development, web operations, big data, and data science for e-commerce and digital media. Dr. Zephaniah Grunschlag (PhD UC Berkeley, BA Princeton) Founder
Dr. Zephaniah Grunschlag is a researcher at Columbia University’s Teachers College EdLab. Together with Dr. Ron Rubin, he developed the original Admitster ACCEPTANCE PREDICTOR™. His research at Columbia University Teacher’s College focuses on developing novel education software applications. At Admitster, Zeph built on the best big data statistical and machine learning techniques while adhering to strict performance metrics that ensure a consistent user experience. Zeph strives to constantly improve the system and research new applications so that users get the information they need as quickly and accurately as possible. Prior to his position at Teachers College, Zeph was an Assistant Professor of Computer Science at Columbia University and a high school teacher at Riverdale High School in New York. Zeph is an alum of Princeton University, where he graduated magna cum laude with a B.A. in mathematics.
Dr. Rachel Rubin (EdD, MEd Harvard, BA Macalester) FounderDr. Rachel Rubin is a world-renowned college admissions expert. She founded and runs Spark Admissions, an international college admissions consulting firm, where she works with students on the college preparation and application process. Rachel has worked with college admissions committees across the country. In addition, Rachel wrote one of the largest studies to date on college admissions. Her expertise and knowledge of admissions has been instrumental in creating Admitster. As an Admitster Founder, Rachel advises, adds context and updates to the software, and routinely sheds light on how Admitster can help students throughout high school.
